Matt Rugg: Connecting Form exhibition

Taking place at Newcastle’s Hatton Gallery (September 2023 - January 2024), the exhibition will display previously unshown work alongside well-known pieces and provide a platform for an outreach and learning programme exploring radical shifts in art education.  

The work included in this exhibition showcases pieces from Matt’s early days as a student and lecturer at Newcastle University, work bought by public collections together with works made up until the year he died in 2020. There will be a range of different pieces on display, from small intimate sculptures to monumental pieces and beautiful paintings and drawings. Connecting Form will demonstrate Matt’s unswerving commitment to abstraction and the development of his studio practice across six decades.
