Newcastle graduates secure £150k investment in cheesemonger business from Dragon’s Den

12 January 2022

Former Newcastle students Edward Hancock and Rich Simpson have secured £150,000 investment in their business from Dragon's Den.

The Cheese Geek is a modern cheesemonger business which was founded by Newcastle University Business School graduate Edward in 2017. He soon enlisted the help of fellow Newcastle alumnus and friend Rich (Combined Honours, 2007), who joined the company as Chief Operating Officer in 2018.

The Cheese Geek operates solely online, sourcing the best cheeses at the peak of their lives and distributing to cheese lovers around the UK. Customers have the opportunity to purchase one-off boxes or subscribe to monthly deliveries.

The pair entered the Den in an episode aired on Thursday 6 January 2022, where they were successful in securing £150,000 in investment for a 7.5% stake in their business.

The investment came from the newest Dragon, Steven Bartlett, who is the founder of world-leading social media company, Social Chain. His support of The Cheese Geek marks his first investment as a Dragon on the show.
