Alumni of Newcastle University Boat Club will join current members on Saturday 25 November 2017 for the 20th Jim London memorial dinner.
The Jim London memorial dinner is held in memory of former NUBC rower James ‘Jim’ London. As a student in the in mid-90s, James was an extremely active member of the club both as a rower and a coach. But tragically, he died of cancer just a couple of years after graduating in 1996 with a degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering.
To commemorate James and mark his involvement in the club, NUBC hold an annual dinner for students and alumni when an award is presented in James’s name to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to the club during their time with NUBC.
This year the dinner will be held on Saturday 25 November 2017 in the Banqueting Hall at Newcastle Civic Centre. For more information and ticket enquiries, please contact NUBC Alumni Officer, Barnaby Stroud-Turp at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In further NUBC news, four of its former members recently competed at the 2017 World Championships in Sarasota, USA. Tom Ford (Geography and Planning, 2015), Tim Clarke (Food & Human Nutrition, 2015), Gemma Hall (History, 2014) and James Rudkin (Politics and History, 2015) represented Great Britain at the international event.
This achievement demonstrates how the high-performance programme offered by Newcastle is pushing more of our athletes to an international standard at senior level. Tom, Tim, Gemma and James will now continue their aim of competing at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
