The 2018 NPPF places even more emphasis on the importance of "good design". The Government sees it as the silver bullet in securing public acceptance of new development. The Government's Building Better, Building Beauty Commission has just produced its interim report. The Place Alliance and others are working on supporting Councillors in the area of design. Despite this many architects claim that one of their greatest areas of difficulty is securing planning consent for what they view as "good design" whilst poor quality design and placemaking from major housebuilders and "plan drawers" appears all around them through the same planning system.

Colin Haylock, past head of Environmental Design for Newcastle City Council and Tim Bailey, Regional Chair of the RIBA will lead a session designed to help you recognise, encourage and support good design -- and save more of your time and energy for resisting the really poor stuff.
