Congratulations to GetPPE NCL for receiving the Project of the Year: Not for Profit/Public Sector award at Dynamo North East's Dynamites 2020 Awards

APL technician Nathan Hudson accepted the award at the online award ceremony on Wednesday 14 October

Congratulations to the whole of the GetPPE NCL team which supported the production of vital protective equipment for the NHS. The project started at the beginning of our Spring lockdown in April when Nathan Hudson, an APL workshop technican, came up with the idea following discussions with colleagues and started full-time production of the vital PPE after working closely with the local NHS who tested the visor headbands he had made.

“I know people who work in the NHS and they said there was a shortage of personal protective equipment,” explains Nathan. “The University has such close links with the NHS, and with our recent virtually graduated Medical Students going frontline, this seemed like an important duty and a good way to help.

The judges said, "he scale and speed in which they put this together was outstanding. Congratulations."
