High-rise living in Newcastle: When and why did the tower blocks happen?
Professor Mark Tewdwr-Jones, Newcastle University's Chair of Town Planning, and Director of Newcastle City Futures urban living partnership, discusses the history and development of multi-level living in Newcastle. Although we associate high-rise living as a relatively modern phenomenon, Newcastle's earliest surviving towers went up in the early 1960s.
