Congratulations to Professor Katie Lloyd Thomas on being awarded two research fellowships

Professor Katie Lloyd-Thomas has been awarded two research fellowships for the coming academic year 18/19 to enable her to complete the research for, and prepare her book: “The Architect as a Shopper: Building Products and the Proprietary Turn in the UK”. The first has been awarded from the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art and Architecture; a mid-career fellowship running from September to December 2018. The second, a 0.6 Leverhulme Research Fellowship, will begin in January 2019 and last the calendar year, finishing in December 2019.

This book project has developed out of shorter articles and research carried out since 2011, and is a further development upon the professor’s ground-breaking study of the architectural specification. It explores the emergence in the 1930s of proprietary specification - when the selection of building products first became a key part of architects' work in the UK.
