Congratulations to Dr Usue Ruiz Arana on winning the Landscape Innovation Award at the Landscape Institute Awards 2020

27 November 2020

2020’s winners highlight landscape’s power to transform the world for the better; retrofitting public green space, reimagining public realm, revitalising high streets, and building resilience and sustainability into our cities and spaces

2020 has been a difficult year; but it hasn’t changed the fact that the climate and biodiversity crises are the biggest challenges of our lifetime. And with the importance of public green spaces highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the transformative power of landscape is at the forefront of public thought and policy like never before.

Dr Usue Ruiz Arana's project won the Landscape Innovation Award. The judges described her project as:

‘A compelling, timely and immersive study that breaks new ground exploring an area of landscape practice not commonly known or understood. This authoritative guidance is backed up by thorough evidence linked to clear advice and inspirational yet practical design solutions that contribute positively to healthy, future landscapes for all. Thinking With My Ears has the potential to both fundamentally alter and broaden our professional approach to design and analysis of the outdoor environment, and excitingly opens the door to a fascinating, relevant and new area of practice.’
