The effects of mass tourism and heritage commodification on heritage communities and the urban environment in historic cities

The research aims to describe urban changes concerning the growth of mass tourism by exploring Rome as a general case and the Monti historic district- as a particular. Identifying and illustrating the patterns of change will help the researcher to analyse the relationship between mass tourism and positive and negative changes that occurred in the urban heritage environment. Based on the outcome of the study, the researcher can propose recommendations for developing a sustainable tourism model for touristifying districts in historic cities.
