Women, Politics and Voice in Newcastle

A century of women’s activism and voice in Newcastle

Date/Time: Tuesday 6th - Monday 11th February 2018

Venue: Hatton Gallery, Newcastle University

This photographic exhibition at the Hatton Gallery features 11 women in Newcastle who are making a difference in their communities, in local, national and global politics, and provides inspiration to girls and women that it is possible, if often challenging, to achieve our dreams and goals.

The eleven women who feature in the exhibition have different backgrounds, different histories, different ages, different experiences and different hopes for change in the twenty-first century. What unites them are their shared values of gender equality and promoting women’s voices and actions in all spheres of economic, political, social and cultural life.

In the centenary year of the Representation of the People Act which started the process of women’s suffrage, it is timely to consider the women who are carrying on the legacy of all those campaigners, the Suffragettes and the Suffragists
