Matthew Abbott
Matthew's EngD project focused on anaerobic digestion using novel oscillatory baffled reactors for the generation of commercially valuable products. The project was in collaboration with The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI).
Prior to his EngD Matthew studied for a BSc in Applied Biology at Newcastle University.
Matthew graduated with his EngD in July 2017 and now works as a Project Manager at the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI).

Charlotte Atwell
Charlotte's EngD worked on the improvement and in-line control of cleaning processes at Heineken, the leading brewing company.
Charlotte holds an MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Surrey.
Charlotte graduated with her EngD in December 2016 and now works as Prototype Build Engineer at Jaguar Landrover.

Chelsea Brain
Chelsea's EngD focussed on aspects of microalgae biotechnology. She used new selection and screening assays and mathematical modelling of bioprocesses to optimise cell growth and production. The EngD was in collaboration with ScotBio.
Chelsea graduated from Newcastle University with a BSc in Biochemistry and completed an MSc in Bioscience at the University of Leeds before taking up her EngD.
Chelsea graduated with her EngD in 2016 and now works as Business Development Manager at the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI).

Wendy Carr
Wendy's project looked into plant cleaning in the pharma industry and understanding the science behind them using multivariate data analysis and principal component analysis. The project was in collaboration with Britest a membership company for the pharma sector.
Wendy graduated from Sunderland University with a BSc in Applied Biology. She has extensive experience working in the biopharmaceutical sector for companies like MSD Billingham, Millipore and Cobra.
Wendy graduated in December 2015 and now works as a Quantum Technologies Manager at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Matthew Collison
Matthews EngD project focused on bioinformatics analyses of the human gut microbiome. The project was in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline.
Matthew holds an MRes in Medical & Molecular Biosciences from Newcastle University.
Matthew now works as a Teaching Assistant in SAgE Computing at Newcastle University.

Mark Crosby
Mark's EngD used mathematical modelling to improve product quality control. His work was done at Proctor and Gamble’s (P&G) R&D site. P&G is an internationally producer of pharmaceutical and consumer products.
Mark graduated from Newcastle University with an MEng (Hons) in Chemical & Process Engineering with Process Control.
Mark graduated with his EngD in July 2017 and works now as Process Engineer at Unilever.

Stephen Goldrick
Stephen’s project involved the application of advanced process control and monitoring techniques for various pharmaceutical and bioprocesses systems. The project was in collaboration with Perceptive Engineering Limited, a premier supplier of intelligent monitoring & control systems for process industries.
Prior to taking up his EngD Stephen graduated from University College Dublin with a BEng in Chemical Engineering where he also completed a MEngSc on the synthesis of Metallic Organic Frameworks.
Stephen graduated with his EngD in December 2015 and now works as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at UCL and MedImmune.

Kerem Irfan
Kerem's EngD project involved data analysis and interpretation as part of the development of a new bioreactor systems for mammalian cell culture. The project was in collaboration with Pall Life Sciences, a world leading technology provider.
Kerem graduated from Newcastle University with an MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering.
Kerem is due to graduate with his EngD in 2016 and now works as a Research Scientist at Pall Life Sciences.

Bernhard Kepplinger
Bernhard's worked on the identification and characterisation of new antibiotics from Actinomycetes. The project was in collaboration with Demuris which is a small spin out company from Newcastle University which has the objective to discover, design and produce new biological products.
Bernhard graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna with a BSc in Biomedicine and Biotechnology and has also completed an MSc in Drug Chemistry Newcastle University.
Bernhard graduated with his EngD in July 2016 and now works as a Research Associate for the Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology at Newcastle University.

Matthew Molloy
Matthew's EngD work focussed on reducing variability in the multi-stage batch chemical synthesis, of an active pharmaceutical compound using extensive data analysis of historical data. The project was in collaboration with Piramal Healthcare Ltd, a globally integrated healthcare company.
Prior to taking up his EngD Matthew graduated from Newcastle University with a BEng in Chemical & Processing Engineering.
Matthew now work as a Senior Process Engineer at AstraZeneca.

Elspeth Ritchie
Elspeth's EngD project applied multivariate data analysis in biopharmaceutical production aiming to generate a toolbox to allow efficient process control. The project was in collaboration with Lonza Biologics, a world leading CMO for the pharma industry.
Elspeth graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering with Pharmaceutical Chemistry before taking up her EngD.
Elspeth graduated in July 2016 and now works at Rakuten, Tokyo.
