About Dr Bevitt
Dr Debbie Bevitt graduated with BSc Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Sheffield in 1987. She was awarded her PhD in 1993 from the University of Cambridge for her studies on antibiotic biosynthesis.
She moved to Newcastle in 1992 as a Molecular Biologist with NovoCastra Laboratories. She was then awarded a MRC Training Fellowship to study Hepatitis C virus at Newcastle University, followed by a Senior Research Associate post in the Musculoskeletal Research Group.
Debbie joined the School of Biomedical Sciences as a Lecturer in 2006 and was appointed Head of School in 2015. Since then she has specialised in teaching and leadership of all the Bioscience degree programmes within the School.
Debbie is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.
