Software Engineering
MSc Digital Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship.
This two-year Software Engineering apprenticeship programme is aimed at individuals without a technical background who want to kick-start their career in IT, and those in the early stages of their IT career.
Having run computing programmes for a variety of levels of experience for over 20 years, apprentices will benefit from the University’s strong expertise in upskilling and reskilling experienced professionals into technical roles.
This programme can be used to access new talent, support non-technical staff move into a technical role, upskill or reskill recent graduates, women’s returners or recent military service leavers.
Apprentices who successfully complete this programme will earn an MSc Digital and Technology Solutions Specialist (Software Engineering) from Newcastle University.
The apprentice must have achieved grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications) and meet the University entry requirements of a 2:2 in any previous degree.
We consider applications on an individual basis and may accept lower or non-standard qualifications along with relevant experience.
The apprentices will go through a steep learning curve and we can help employers identify potential apprentices who are likely to be successful on this programme.
All applicants’ skills will be accessed prior to acceptance.

Six month Capstone project
Supported by an academic supervisor, this six month, work-based project pulls together the skills and knowledge developed over the course of the apprenticeship, and provides a platform for apprentices to bring direct benefits to your organisation.
The programme is delivered through a blended approach with live online delivery combined with one Friday on campus every month, over the two year period. This is an opportunity for apprentices to take part in workshops, work based group activities, and drop-ins with tutors, skills coaches and academics.
The programme fully satisfies the 20% off-the-job learning required of all apprenticeships funded through the levy.
