We’re thrilled to announce that Newcastle University Business School’s Flying Start programme, in partnership with PwC and ICAEW, has won one of the three PQ ‘Editor’s Special Awards’ for 2022!

The PQ Awards are national awards, celebrating successes within the accountancy sector.

The awards were held in London on Monday 25 April, with our Subject Group Head of Accounting and Finance, Chris Soan,Degree Programme Director, Helen Currie and Naomi Challans, Talent Manager at PwC in attendance to accept the award.

This Flying Start Programme was nominated as we are celebrating a significant 20 years since it first began at the Business School. Reaching this landmark and winning this PQ Award has consolidated everyone’s achievements over the last two decades.

Winning the award

Chris Soan, Subject Group Head of Accounting and Finance, had this to say:

“We nominated the programme to help mark its significant 20 year milestone, so going on to win this award is superb recognition which means so much to us all. At the fantastic venue of Proud Embankment in London, attended by colleagues from other Universities, tuition providers, accountancy bodies and accountancy firms, we accepted the award on behalf of everyone who has been involved in the Newcastle Flying Start programme from its very inception; that’s a lot of people who have contributed to make the programme what it is today!  The first of its kind which has proved such a winning formula. Here’s to the next 20 years”.

We nominated the programme to help mark its significant 20 year milestone, so going on to win this award is superb recognition which means so much to us all.

The first of its kind

Our Flying Start programme is a four-year degree that gives students a flying start towards becoming a fully qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant. As pioneers of this first-of-its-kind degree, our students have the opportunity to develop business skills and gain real experience through paid work placements during Stages 2, 3 and 4. In 2020, 100% of our graduates secured positions with PwC and just over a year after graduation, students can become fully qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountants. This puts them in a significantly advantageous position in terms of career growth, compared to their peers.

Celebrating 20 years of success

Our Flying Start programme is the most established of its kind. We are celebrating the last two decades of the programme alongside our current students, alumni and staff through capturing their views and experiences since the inception of the course in 2002. We are so proud of the achievements and successes of all our students and staff over the last 20 years. You can celebrate with us and find out where some of our Alumni are today.
