Our primary shared goal is to understand how to promote resilience in a range of cardiovascular conditions. We focus our research questions into those that will directly impact against the progressive effects of aging on the normal and diseased heart.
This is achieved through collaborative partnerships with regional NHS hospitals and other researchers across Newcastle University. Our success comes through this multi-disciplinary and cross-cutting collaborative approach.
We continue to recruit the best researchers from around the world but are committed to identifying and developing our own homegrown talent.
Through research training degrees we provide comprehensive cardiovascular teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate stages - for both basic scientists and clinicians in training. There are opportunities to study in almost all areas of internationally recognised cardiovascular research.
We are asking how and why congenital heart disease happens and investigating how we help patients and their families.
We are finding new treatments for diseases affecting blood vessels of the head, heart, lungs and whole body.
