Staff Profile

Marc Lintern




Marc is an experienced career and employability professional, with more than twenty years experience working in higher education. He joined the Careers Service as Director in January 2013 after working previously as Head of Employability at Plymouth University and as a careers adviser at Portsmouth University.

As Director of Newcastle’s award-winning Careers Service, Marc’s role includes providing institutional leadership on areas such as employability, career management, student enterprise and work-based learning. He also works with businesses, business intermediaries, voluntary and community groups in the city, region and beyond in order to develop opportunities for Newcastle students to gain experience that will add value to their academic studies and ultimately to help them gain graduate level employment when completing their studies. 

Background experience 

Treasurer, Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS; 2010-2016): Marc was elected to the Board of AGCAS in July 2010 and spent six years as treasurer. 

Trainer, Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS): Marc is an accredited AGCAS Trainer and currently trains on a jointly awarded Masters level course with Warwick University on Managing Higher Education Careers Services.

Director, Trufflehog (2009-2012): Trufflehog is a social enterprise which Marc set up in 2009 to publish children's books as an experiential learning opportunity for university students and recent graduates, while also providing aspiration raising opportunities for school pupils. Working with an established children's author Helen Greathead, Trufflehog published its first book 'We Love Looe' in May 2010 and published four books in total. Each book was funded by sponsorship with additional revenues from book sales.

Director, Gradsouthwest (2002-2012): In 2002 Marc co-founded Gradsouthwest, a regional vacancy service delivered in partnership by all of the higher education institutions in the South West of England. Marc was Project Director of Gradsouthwest until moving to Newcastle and this is now one of the UK's leading regional graduate vacancy services.

Marc's main area of research interest is on the career progression of graduates from Foundation Degrees, including publishing four studies based on the experience of students studying in University of Plymouth Colleges;
