Careers Service

Staff Profile

Thomas Meadows

Employer Liaison Manager

I joined the Careers Service in the summer of 2016, initially in the Internships Team but now in the Graduate Recruitment and Placements Teams, all of which sit within the wider Business Engagement Team. Alongside my day-to-day roles, I have undertaken several additional projects, including Business Process Improvement Champion training and a collaborative secondment involving Careers Service module redevelopment and research into Experiential Learning opportunities around the University.

Prior to this, I worked for the University's catering business EAT@NEWCASTLE as a Food and Beverage Supervisor where I was responsible for the day-to-day running of varying catering outlets, and the supervision of around 30 team members.

Roles and Responsibilities

I currently work in the Business Engagement Team in split roles: Employer Liaison Manager and Placements Adviser. In my role as Employer Liaison Manager, I am responsible for providing advice and guidance about the Careers Service's offer to employers who wish to work with our students and graduates, supporting them in their recruitment.

In my role as Placements Adviser, I am responsible for promoting and administering the service's Placement Year module, and supporting students at all stages of their placement. I organise and host sessions for students to promote the benefits of undertaking a placement, and host a variety of 1-2-1 meetings and group workshops for students out on placement.

In addition, I am currently undertaking a Level 5 NVQ in Leadership and Management and I am a member of AGCAS, the ISE and ASET.

Previously, I held both student and employer-facing roles within the Business Engagement Team, primarily co-ordinating student internships for local businesses. This included liasing with employers, attending sign-up meetings and overseeing the administration of the scheme.

Other responsibilities included: organising the Part Time Jobs Fair; leading student skills development workshops; overseeing the administration of the Santander Universities' Internship scheme; and being part of the organising and delivery of the Creative Careers Event.
