Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Award
The Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Awards celebrate and recognise the achievements of our students and recent graduates (within the last 3 years) who have used enterprise to boost their employability or create their own employment through start-up activities.
Entrants could be developing a new business, implementing innovative ideas during their part-time work, raising funds for their society or club in a creative way, or building industrial partnerships to further the impact of their research.
This is your chance to nominate yourself or nominate your friends, colleagues or peers in the following categories:
Best Concept
This award celebrates individuals or teams at a pre-launch stage who have developed a viable business idea or social enterprise and proven their concept. This category is open to businesses and social enterprises.
Prize: Tickets to Newcastle Startup Week
Best New Business
This award recognises start-ups who are actively trading, have registered their business and have launched products or services in the past 12 months. This category is open to both businesses and social enterprises.
Prize: £500 cash to spend on your business.
Best Independent Professional
This award celebrates the achievements of self-employed individuals currently trading and using their skills and/or knowledge as freelancers, independent contractors and consultants. Students and alumni working in any industry are invited to apply.
Prize: Membership of IPSE – the association of independent professionals
Enterprise Awards
These categories recognise and celebrate current students that have demonstrated one or more of the following enterprising behaviours, attributes and competencies in order to make things happen and have an impact at University, in the workplace and/or in the community:
- the curiosity, emotional intelligence and cultural awareness to uncover needs and develop valuable insights
- the confidence and self-awareness to take the initiative, manage risk and pro-actively engage with problems and opportunities
- the creativity and innovation to generate and evaluate new ideas and solutions
- the persuasiveness and strategic thinking to inspire and influence the commitment and support of others
- the resourcefulness to identify and mobilise networks, knowledge, skills, materials, and money
- the resilience and adaptability to make the most of challenge, uncertainty, ambiguity and failure
Enterprising Undergraduate Award – for individual undergraduates
Prize: £100 intu voucher
Enterprising Postgraduate Award – for individual taught postgraduates
Prize: £100 intu voucher
Enterprising Researcher Award – for individual postgraduate research students
Prize: £100 intu voucher
Enterprising Team Award – for teams of two or more students
Prize: £250 intu voucher
Why should I apply to the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Awards?
In addition to the honour of winning a Celebrating Success Award and the fantastic prizes mentioned above, winners of the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Awards go on to compete at the Pride of Newcastle University Awards in June.
This celebratory dinner event recognises the exceptional achievements of students’ extra-curricular activities where they have made an outstanding contribution to our University community, the region and beyond.
