Hannah Gorman, Graduate Trainee, Personal Care Sales Development, Croda

I spent an amazing four years at Newcastle, graduating in July 2019 with an MChem in Chemistry. I am currently working at a chemical company called Croda on their graduate scheme. As part of the scheme, I have learnt that I love roles outside of the lab, having recently worked in sales development for the beauty and cosmetics division of the business. I am now in the process of moving to Sweden to begin another role outside of the lab, this time working on the digital transformation of our Scandinavian business.

Daisy Hughes, Oncology Marketing Graduate, Bayer

As a member of the Bayer Oncology brand team, specifically aligned to the prostate cancer franchise, I play a key role in the delivery of marketing projects and the development of materials required by the sales force for their engagement with healthcare professionals. I have been given a breadth of responsibilities including managing my own projects and taking a leading role in the digital transformation for marketing within Bayer. Additionally, as part of my graduate scheme, I have the opportunity to partake in a curriculum of training courses to improve my commercial acumen and stakeholder management. I am thoroughly enjoying my current role within Bayer and the pharmaceutical industry and have strong aspirations to become a brand manager in the future.

Alison Reeves, Marketing Executive, Lhasa Ltd

When I graduated from Newcastle University with a 2:1 in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do from a career perspective, but I knew that I wanted a role which involved people and business within the life sciences industry. After a short stint in scientific recruitment, I discovered Lhasa Limited, a not-for-profit organisation which provides software to the life sciences industry. In 2015 I joined Lhasa’s sales team where I travelled globally to deliver sales pitches to prospective organisations and also to represent Lhasa at scientific conferences.

Over time, my responsibilities developed from mentoring to line management. In 2020 I moved to Lhasa’s Marketing team and throughout the year I completed the CIM level 4 qualification in professional marketing. My role in Marketing is varied however the focus is communicating information (in line with Lhasa’s objectives) and measuring the success of that communication. Recent activities include creating promotional strategies for Lhasa’s newest products - which are in the growth phase of the product lifecycle, generating blog content (suggesting, organising and editing) and creating a campaign plan to promote cross-selling of Lhasa’s software to existing members.
