If you have an idea for a product or service, the START UP Essentials workshops will help you turn your concept into a workable business model

Our series of four interactive workshops are designed to help you gain the knowledge and confidence necessary to turn your idea into a workable business model, with each session tailored towards an essential element of start-up creation. You can expect to make significant progress on developing your idea in a very short period of time. The full programme schedule is as follows:

Workshop 1: Transform it...

Wednesday 6 February 2019, 14:00 - 16:00, King's Gate L1.20

This session will help you to transform your idea into a legitimate business model. You will be provided with the necessary support to enable you to draft the prototype model of your business and take the first step towards creating a new venture.

Workshop 2: Test it...

Wednesday 13 February 2019, 14:00 - 16:00, King's Gate L1.20

This workshop will demonstrate how to effectively conduct market research and show you how to identify the key things that you need to research before launching. By the end of the workshop you will have the tools necessary to uncover the demand for your start-up, whatever the style of business you are working on. 

Workshop 3: Market it...

Wednesday 27 February 2019, 14:00 - 16:00, King's Gate L1.20

This session will teach you how to approach marketing in order to make your products or services more attractive to potential customers. We’ll also explore intellectual property protection options and the value of protecting your ideas. By the end of the session you will understand how to effectively communicate the value of your business to the right target audience.

Workshop 4: Finance it...

Wednesday 6 March 2019, 14:00 - 16:00, King's Gate L1.20

This workshop will help you to begin to establish how to make your idea work financially. We'll work together to demystify start-up costs, cash flow and sources of funding in a ‘no pressure’ environment. By the end of the final workshop you will be able to check if your business makes financial sense and have a better understanding of methods for raising finance.

Pitching Practice (optional)

Wednesday 13 March 2019, 14:00 - 16:00, King's Gate L1.20

We understand that reaching out to potential partners, buyers or investors might be daunting, so we want to give you an opportunity to practice talking about your business idea in a friendly environment. The Pitching Practice session is completely optional and takes place the week after the final START UP Essentials workshop, if you opt-in you will get a chance to rehearse your pitch and receive professional feedback from a panel of business advisers.
