Work With Us

Work on developing new ideas or enhancing your business in our START UP Space.

Located within the Careers and Enterprise Centre on Level 1 of King’s Gate, the START UP Space is the hub of the START UP community on campus. It offers an open plan co-working environment where you can work on your projects and business ideas, meet like-minded people and be part of the START UP community.

It’s free to use for students and graduates; just turn up with your laptop or use one of our open access workstations. There’s space for group work, quiet work, formal meetings and informal conversations and all in the heart of the campus and the City Centre. In the START UP Space you are never too far away from someone who can listen to problems, answer questions and help with inspiration and ideas.

Student Societies

Joining one of our partner student societies presents many opportunities to develop your skills and experience, while having fun and making friends for life.

Enactus Newcastle

Enactus is an international organisation which inspires students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. If you’re passionate about social change and keen to make a difference, you can work with like-minded students on challenges facing society today.

With Enactus Newcastle, you’ll have the opportunity to create and develop projects which range from helping people locally in Northumberland to international projects that can benefit communities in countries such as Rwanda. You can also take on specific roles such as communications, media or fundraising.

Benefits of taking part

Joining Enactus can give you the opportunity to:

  • make friends, improve lives and make a real difference
  • gain support from business leaders and University advisers, including the Careers Service
  • develop skills such as team work, organisation and commercial awareness

Enactus is also recognised by many top graduate recruiters.

Enactus World Cup

There are over 50 Enactus student societies in the UK. Each year they take part in a competition, with 35 societies selected from regional heats going through to present their achievements at the Enactus UK National Competition held in London in April. The winner from this represents the UK in the Enactus World Cup, with the final held in September. At the 2016 Enactus UK National Competition, Enactus Newcastle were runners up in their semi-final heat.

START UP Internships

Inspire others to fulfill their start-up potential. START UP Interns help to promote and deliver START UP activities on campus.

We recruit up to three paid, part-time interns each academic year. Our interns work across campus to:

  • promote the START UP brand and activities
  • develop the START UP community on campus
  • organise events such as START UP Connect
  • support the work of the wider START UP Team

By joining our team you will gain valuable marketing, promotion and event organising experience, and many skills particularly:

  • team working
  • communication
  • planning and organising
  • commercial acumen

You will have access to networks and make contacts that could develop your career - and, importantly, earn money while you gain these skills.

2019/20 interns will work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week from 23 September 2019 to 26 June 2020.

How to apply

Applications for the next cohort of START UP Interns are now closed and will reopen in Semester 2 for the 2020/21 academic year.
