Co-curate North East: creating sustainable routes for North East communities to digitally transform and co-produce open cultural resources

We aim to research the use of technology in formative assessment classroom practices in ways that allow teachers to respond to emerging needs of low achieving learners in maths and science so they are better motivated in their learning of these subjects.

Background

Co-Curate is a project which brings together online collections, museums, universities, schools and community groups to make and re-make stories and images from North East England and Cumbria. Co-Curate is a trans-disciplinary project that will open up 'official' museum and 'un-officia'l co-created community-based collections and archives through innovative collaborative approaches using social media and open archives/data.

Aims and objectives

Co-Curate NE responds to demand from schools and community groups within the North East to access and enhance knowledge from a broad range of museum collections and archives. Schools and community groups are often unable to access physical collections and archives because of distance or because demand for physical visits outstrips the capacity of the museum/archive. Co-Curate NE will develop digital access to address this challenge. It will open up ‘official’ museum/archive and ‘un-official’ co-created community-based collections and archives through innovative collaborative approaches using social media and open data. The type and range of access to materials will not be dictated, as is sometimes the case, by curators and academics; it will be identified by the communities themselves through carefully facilitated and supported collaboration, drawing on the multidisciplinary expertise of the project team.
