My Background

Before joining the University, I have worked in a wide range of organisations - Most recently for an IT Consultancy in Durham where I spent a year as Managed Service IT Manager for Durham University Business School as well as looking after their cloud hosting solution.

I have broad range of technical skills gained over the years, including the Microsoft Technical Stack (including SQL Server and SharePoint), VMware an  Citrix. I have also had experience of Datacentre management at Home Group in Gosforth where I was responsible for the Group's In House Datacentre which consisted of over 30 racks of servers.

As well as broad technical skills, I also have good relationship management skills and I am used to working with a wide range of stakeholders and finding my way through internal politics!

I have always had a passion for IT in Education and I have spent time as a school network manager as well as Enterprise Architect/Technical consultant for Newcastle City Council, where I was part of the "Building Schools For The Future" (BSF) managed service covering 16 Special, Middle and Secondary Schools in Newcastle. I have also just completed a 3 year term as Parent Governor at Broadway East First School in Gosforth.

Other interests include Piano, Cycling and Home Wine Making.

I also have a passion for science and I am a qualified Brewer, having obtained my BSc at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh in Brewing and Distilling in 1995.
