Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care

Advocacy and Solidarity

The Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care team is committed to empowering your voice within our University community to challenge injustice and inequality. Justice for each other and for the world is something that is important to people of all faiths and none. It’s important to look after our neighbours – both near and far – and to offer the support we can through words and actions.

There is a rich history of faith communities offering support, advocacy and solidarity and speaking up for injustice. The topics that we are passionate about include:

  • Racial equality
  • Climate crisis and environmental sustainability
  • Food poverty
  • Educational equality
  • Homelessness

The Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care team work closely with the University's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team to develop the work of the University and with the Sabbatical Officers at NUSU to participate in student-led campaigns.

We also offer our own 'Call to Action' campaign called Solidariteam where we encourage students and colleagues to take part in initiatives to show solidarity to our neighbours - both in Newcastle and further away. Further details can be found on the Solidariteam page.
