Faith Facilities

Newcastle University provides a Muslim prayer space in the King George VI building. You can access this space if you are a Newcastle University student or colleague by using your University smartcard.

There are two quiet rooms available in the Urban Sciences Building, which can be used for prayer and reflection.

These spaces are managed by Newcastle University, in accordance with our Faith Space Policy.

Using the King George VI Prayer Space

You can make use of the King George VI Prayer space under the latest guidance (last updated 16th August 2021).  Please see below for more information:

  • The Prayer Space is open and operated in accordance with new guidance. Prayer Space users must familiarise themselves with the guidance before entering the space. A summary document is also available.
  • Students and Staff members must swipe their smartcards to gain entry. This should be done one at a time.
  • In line with NHS Track and Trace, all users are encouraged to scan the QR code that is displayed at the entrance.
  • It is important to reiterate that any behaviour which contravenes the guidance set out in the documents above will not be tolerated. The health and safety of those who use the space is of upmost importance.

Alternative provision is available in any quiet spaces still open on campus.
