Translational Oral Biosciences

Researchers in this theme have expertise in biological sciences dedicated to basic and pre-clinical research in the first phase of the translational spectrum.

We aim to inform clinical research and improve patient management through the discovery of new information about biological processes related to oral diseases.

Our work integrates closely with the cross-cutting themes of Periodontal Diseases, Orofacial Pain and Biomaterials.

Cross-faculty collaborations

We are affiliated with both the Faculty of Medical Sciences Bioscience Research Institutes including the Biosciences Institute and the Translational and Clinical Research Institute with whom we conduct extensive collaborative research.

In addition, we collaborate widely with researchers across Newcastle University, nationally and internationally.

Working with industry

We have several joint projects with industry ranging from small and medium enterprises to multi-national oral health care companies.

Our research is supported by the NIHR, EPSRC, The Dunhill Medical Trust and the Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre in addition to several industrial collaborations.
