Subject summary

Gain an international insight into the role of education in society. You'll develop skills for employment for a diverse range of careers, such as:

  • community education
  • school management
  • rehabilitation
  • e-learning.

Find out what is meant by education and what's its purpose. Discover the forms it can take and who should decide these.

You can understand how and where learning takes place, and importantly, how far achievement is based on social or cultural factors.

You'll have the chance to study how the portrayal of education in popular culture helps shape national, social and cultural identities.

Find out the part education plays in international development.

Education is offered by the School of Education, Communication & Language Sciences.


There are no pre-requisites for taking education as one of your subjects in Combined Honours.
