Newcastle Visiting Professor warns about Trusting AI in Cybersecurity

Artificial Intelligence (AI) for cybersecurity has been the subject of billions of dollars of investment in recent years, and is a rapidly growing field. In an article for the influential Nature Artificial Intelligence Journal, Professor Tom McCutcheon, Visiting Professor of Practice in Computing at Newcastle, alongside his co-authors, points out that AI has great potential to improve cybersecurity practices, but could also enable new forms of attacks. They argue that a range of controls are needed - including in-house development, adversarial training, and parallel and dynamic monitoring - to ensure dependable AI in this critical area.
