Newcastle Student wins Computer Science Undergraduate of the Year Award

Mehdi Naderi Varandi a BSc student won The Computer Science, IT and Physics Undergraduate of the Year at the TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards.

Now in it's tenth year, the TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards brings together prominent employers and talented undergraduates.

Over 4,500 students from 138 UK universities applied for the 14 awards available. Each award is partnered by leading employers and professional bodies including Deutche Bank, E.ON, Enterprise, L'Oreal, Visa and more.

133 finalists were invited to the awards ceremony presented by Rachel Riley in Canary Wharf on Friday 26 April.

Out of those finalists Mehdi was announced as The Computer Science, IT and Physics Undergraduate of the Year, partnered with VISA.

Mehdi was commended for his skill and drive, demonstrated by his spearheading the outreach branch of the Computing and Technology Society where he directs teams of mentors who teach coding lessons in local schools.
