Newcastle upon Tyne

Our campus is in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, the regional capital of the North East of England. Newcastle is easy to travel to and simple to navigate.

Newcastle is a thriving city with a reputation for providing a friendly welcome to all visitors. During your visit to Newcastle University, discover what else this vibrant city has to offer. Explore our rich history, vibrant culture, nightlife, fine dining and shopping.

Outside of the conference you're never stuck for something to do in Newcastle. From galleries and museums to theatre and music venues, restaurants and pubs to shopping destinations. Our compact city offers this all within walking distance.

The city

Newcastle Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Lonely Planet’s Great Britain guidebook (2011) named Newcastle as 'the hipster capital of the North East'. Attractions include theatres, art galleries, museums and eateries. In 2010, Newcastle was voted third best city in Europe for Nightlife in Trip Advisor’s Travellers Choice Awards 2010.

Indulge in some retail therapy in the historic heart of the city and experience traditional British markets. Visit the famous Grainger Market, dating back to 1835 and featuring over 100 vendors selling food, drink, vintage clothing or more, all in one of Britain's most beautiful covered markets. Take a weekend stroll along the River Tyne at the Sunday Quayside Market, part of Newcastle's history as far back as 1736, where you can find street food, fashion and more.

The region

From majestic rolling countryside to our stunning coastline, awe-inspiring castles and ancient ruins to our vibrant cultural scene, our region gives delegates the opportunity to see and do all.

We have two UNESCO World Heritage sites right on our doorstep with Durham Cathedral and Hadrian's Wall. Newcastle is the gateway to a spectacular region with a diverse landscape of history, culture, coast and countryside.

A short drive from the city is the region's spectacular coastline and stunning countryside. The Lake District, Yorkshire and the Scottish Borders are all within easy reach for a day trip.

Northumbria is one of the quietest and most unspoilt regions of England. It contains the Cheviot Hills reaching to the Scottish border, some 50 miles of coastline of outstanding natural beauty and Hadrians Wall, Holy Island and the Farne Islands.

It's also home to many castles, where the violent border battles are now replaced by a tranquillity that is not easily found elsewhere.
