July 2021 Ceremonies

Following consultation with colleagues and students, Newcastle University has taken the difficult decision to postpone the July 2021 congregation ceremonies. Although the Government Roadmap had potentially raised the possibility of being able to hold large events in July without restrictions, it was felt that it was not feasible to commit to holding July ceremonies at this time due to the current levels of uncertainty surrounding large-scale indoor events of this nature. This was a difficult decision to make but ultimately, the safety of our graduates, guests and the whole Newcastle community had to take priority.

Please be assured that you do not have to attend a ceremony in order to successfully graduate and that all 2021 graduates will still be invited back to campus for a graduation ceremony at a later date.

July/December 2020 Ceremonies

Please be assured that following the postponement of the July and December 2020 graduation ceremonies, all 2020 graduates will still be invited back to campus for a graduation ceremony as soon as it is safe to do so.

Rescheduled Ceremonies

Potential dates for rescheduled ceremonies (for both 2020 and 2021 graduates) will be considered in due course, once a clearer picture emerges in regard to restrictions for indoor public events and travel. It is currently anticipated that Autumn 2021 would be the earliest opportunity for holding traditional indoor ceremonies, but it may be that 2022 will prove to be a more realistic and practical timeframe.
