Ceremonies for 2022 graduates and UG 2021 graduates.
We are very excited to be holding ceremonies for the students graduating in 2022 as well as the UG 2021 graduates.
Dates & Schedule
The ceremonies will take place on Friday 5 August 2022 at Christ Church Spitalfields (Commercial Street, London E1 6LY) at 2pm.
Booking
Bookings for the London 2022 cerermonies are now closed. If you have not registered and wish to attend, please contact the congregations office.
Tickets/Guests
Each graduate is able to bring up to 2 guests with them to the ceremony. The graduate and 2 guest tickets are provided free of charge.
Babies and children:
Although we wish to make congregations as welcoming and inclusive as possible, the formal nature and duration of the ceremonies may make them unsuitable for babies and young children. Due to fire regulations, please be aware that all children (including babies) require a guest ticket.
Visa invitation letter:
If you need an invitation letter to your ceremony, to support a visa application for you or your guests, complete the visa letter request form.
Photography
Professional photography sessions will be available on the day via our contracted photography supplier (Tempest). Further details will be provided nearer to the ceremonies.
Hardship Support
We do not want any graduate to be put off attending their congregation ceremony due to financial concerns. If you think that you may struggle to meet the costs associated with the day (e.g., if you are unemployed or perhaps still in higher education), then we may be able to provide some assistance in relation to travel costs. Please contact the congregations office.
The congregation ceremonies are subject to Government guidance, including any changes to local or national restrictions relating to Covid-19. You will also be required to follow any protocols and procedures required by the University or the venue, even if these differ from Government guidance and legal requirements.
The safety of our graduates, guests, staff, and suppliers for this activity is of paramount importance. An update on the safety measures that will be in place will be provided closer to the event.
Please only bring essential items. Large bags, suitcases or backpacks will not be allowed in Christ Church Spitalfields. Smaller bags (e.g. handbags) may be searched.
There are no storage or cloakroom facilities available; please make alternative arrangements before arriving on campus.
I am unable to attend a ceremony on 5 August, am I able to attend a future ceremony?
Following the closure of the NU London campus, please be aware that the ceremonies taking place on 5 August 2022 will be the last ones taking place in London. If you are unable to attend in August but would like to attend a future ceremony in Newcastle, please get in touch.
Can I bring more than 2 guests?
The standard guest allowance is a maximum of 2 per graduate. Information regarding extra tickets can be found here.
The situation with the ongoing pandemic is still changeable and unpredictable and the information on this page is therefore subject to any future changes in government restrictions or guidance. We advise you to delay making any travel or accommodation arrangements until much closer to the time.
In the event that the congregation ceremonies have to be cancelled, delayed, postponed or curtailed due to circumstances beyond the University’s control, the University shall endeavour to provide graduates with as much notice as is reasonably practical.
The University will not be liable for any losses, direct or otherwise, incurred by graduates or their guests in the event of Newcastle University’s Congregation Ceremonies being cancelled, delayed, postponed or curtailed due to circumstances beyond the control of the University.
Circumstances that would constitute a force majeure may include, but are not limited to: fire, flood, explosion or any other incident that renders the venue or areas in which the event is due to be held unsafe to use; terrorist act (or threat of a terrorist act); natural disaster; pandemic; industrial action; or a period of national mourning.
Photography and filming will be taking place during all ceremonies and around the venue. Occasionally, these will be used for University marketing materials, both print and digital. If you do not wish to appear in the photographs or film, please make this known to the photographer, film crew or a member of staff. Every effort will then be made to ensure that you are either not photographed/filmed, or that you are removed from the photograph/film captured.e that this is unlikely due to the capacity of the venue.
