Kevin Richardson

Kevin is currently seconded to central government. He is working as a part of a team negotiating with the EU Commission on funding programmes for 2014-2020. 

Responsibilities

He has lead responsibility for research, development & innovation. This includes the design of a framework for smart specialisation.

Kevin acted as a visiting expert on EU structural funds in Pomorski, Poland, and Moldavia, Romania. He managed the team that delivered the OECD Territorial Review of Newcastle in the North East (2006).

Past experience

Kevin started working life as a coal miner - elected as the youngest ever Chair of a branch of the National Union of Mineworkers. He then gained a first class degree in Government & Public Policy at Northumbria University where he served also as Chair of the NUS.

At Newcastle City Council, he established a programme of research placements for our students and has given guest lectures at CURDS. Kevin has also volunteered for several years a mentor on our Graduate Connections database.
