This project aimed to widen and accelerate the adoption of cloud services (including business-critical services) by resolving data security issues through developing a solution for flexible data management.

Data security and flexibility in the cloud has been identified as the number one barrier to more expansive cloud adoption by organisations (IDC, 2012). This project addressed these issues by developing a Data Management Broker enabling organisations to:

  • use customer-focused SLAs to capture data requirements
  • ensure requirements are mapped to appropriate data storage and management solutions
  • capture audit requirements for governance

The Digital Institute was a member of a consortium that harnessed existing background technologies in cloud platform provisioning, service agreements, policy management, collaborative data management and analysis.

A key output of this project was the release of the 'Data Management Broker' a piece of open source software, this has been made available publicly at
