This programme combines the support and structure of taught modules with independent research. It will introduce approaches to enable you to apply this understanding to your own professional context. You take compulsory modules to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding to engage with and evaluate research and theory in education. These modules enable you to find a path for future research, prepare a research proposal, and carry it out. You will also take optional modules related to your professional situation. Applied Linguistics, PhD
Newcastle University is one of the largest centres for linguistic research in Europe. This gives you the unique opportunity to learn a wide range of methodologies. You will be exposed to diverse theoretical perspectives, which will enrich your own research. As a postgraduate researcher in linguistics or applied linguistics, you will carry out a major research project working with supervisors who are experts in your field. Training and support
For all our doctoral programmes, training is provided both by the HaSS Research Training Programme and the School. You will also have regular meetings with your supervisor. We do not offer distance learning. Part-time study is not available to international students.
