Undergraduate Student Positions
There are a variety of positions available for undergraduate students within the School. Here you will find an outline of each role.
Student voice committee
Student voice committeePositions are selected at the final Student voice committee each year, all course representatives are welcome to apply.
Chair
The Student Chair’s most active role is during the SVC meeting. She/he will:
- lead positive discussions
- guide the committee towards a decision
- assist in writing the agenda and check the minutes before circulation
Along with the secretary, the chair will:
- write Annual Reports
- represent the School at University Forum Meetings
- attend training with the Students’ Union
- bring matters to the relevant Board of Studies
Secretary
The secretary’s most active role is before and after the SVC meeting. She/he will:
- provide members with an agenda before meetings
- take notes during the meeting, and circulating the minutes after the meeting
Along with the chair, the secretary will:
- write Annual Reports
- represent the School at University Forum Meetings
- attend training with the Students’ Union
- bring matters to the relevant Board of Studies
Student-led café
Student-led caféVolunteer café assistants
Main duties:
- work flexible shifts
- serve tea/coffee
- clean and maintain the coffee machine and café area
- cash up at the end of the shift
This is an opportunity to socialize whilst gaining customer service experience.

Representatives
RepresentativesCourse representatives
Course Reps are a point of contact for students in the school and will:
- be a point of contact for fellow students to express their views and ideas
- communicate the views of their fellow students at Student-Staff Committee meetings
- work with the Student Chair, Secretary, Staff and other Course Reps to find solutions
- take part in decision making
- feed back any developments to the students on their course
- attend training from the Students’ Union
School representative
The purpose of the School Rep role is to be the student voice of School. The school rep will:
- be a member of SSC
- meet once a term with the Head of School
- attend various committees each month.
- submit updates to the Student Unions Education Officer
- assist in the planning, organisation and delivery of Course Representative events
This role is available for the entire length of study and is therefore not recruited annually. The current School Representative is Jamie Nicholas Mounsey.
Student leaders
Student leadersStudent Leaders help on a range of student-focused events across the year including:
- Induction week
- Open and Visit Days
- major public events run by the school
- ad hoc help
This is an opportunity to gain experience in customer service and marketing.
Careers and employability joint student lead
Careers and employability joint student leadIn SELLL, we want students to both enjoy their studies and to build a portfolio of employability skills that will allow them to thrive in the world of work. As one of our Student Leads for Employability & Enterprise you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in helping to shape the employability and enterprise agenda in SELLL.
This is an opportunity to gain employability skills in creative writing, publicity and networking.
