Undergraduate School Prizes 2021

14 July 2021

To celebrate the hard work and achievements of our final year Undergraduate students we have been preparing virtual graduation celebrations. Undergraduate students will receive an email sharing a link to a page of celebratory messages and videos from colleagues around the School.

We have also awarded Undergraduate Prizes for the following:

Cowan, Johnson and Watson Prize for Best Dissertation in Literature

Congratulations to Lucy Scott for winning the Cowan, Johnson and Watson Prize for Best Dissertation in Literature. Lucy's research on working class identity and generational trauma was lauded for its originality, sophistication and relevance.

Cowan, Johnson and Watson Prize for Best File of Original Literary Work in Creative Writing

Congratulations to Beth Worthy for winning the Cowan, Johnson & Watson Prize for Best File of Original Literary Work in Creative Writing! "It’s a huge honour to be selected for this year’s Cowan, Johnson and Watson Prize and I’m incredibly grateful to have this recognition punctuate the end of my time at Newcastle University. It is truly wonderful to have the opportunity to exercise my passion for poetry writing, and even more so to be able to share that passion with my tutors and peers – all of whom have been unimaginably supportive throughout 2020-21. I owe many thanks to all the resilient, wise, and kind women who inspired my writing – you are life itself."

Best Dissertation in Language and Linguistics (Barbara Strang)

Congratulations to Essi Harbord for winning the Barbara Strang prize for Best Dissertation in Language and Linguistics! Next year Essi will continue to research the history and development of English, particularly the influence of Old Norse/Scandinavian in the medieval period, at the University of Cambridge.
