A brief outline of the research project

Sami’s subject area is literary theory, with a special focus on postcolonialism. His PhD work examines neo-Orientalist literary representations of the Arab uprisings. His analyses are based primarily on Edward W. Said’s work on Orientalism and strive to demonstrate the relevance of Said’s theorisation to present-day depictions of Arab history in English literature. Sami examines literary works such as Guapa by Saleem Haddad, The Return by Hisham Matar and Cairo my City, Our Revolution by Ahdaf Soueif.
