Working with Business and Government

Continuing Professional Development, consultancy, joint projects and informing policy.

Dr James Widmer presents at the Newcastle University APC Launch

We have a great track record of innovating, researching and teaching alongside industrial partners.

Some of the biggest names from industry are amongst our many partners. We are one of only four UK universities to enjoy principal partner status with global engineering and technology giant, Siemens. Other partners include technology innovator Dyson, international engineering consultancy Arup, and an award-winning relationship with utilities giant Northumbrian Water Group.

Alongside commercial partners, our expertise informs policy and regulation in Government. We're very proud that Professor Phil Blythe is the Chief Scientific Adviser to The Department for Transport. Flooding, mitigating climate change impacts, expert witness, and providing public enquiry evidence are some of the other activities we undertake.

Our collaborations with industry include the provision of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), collaborative projects, shared facilities, student placements, and a range of analytical and technical services.
