CONVEX: CONVective EXtremes
Using observational evidence and process understanding to improve predictions of extreme rainfall change
- Project Leader: Prof Hayley Fowler
- Staff: Dr Stephen Blenkinsop; Dr Steven Chan; Dr Christopher Ferro; Dr Elizabeth Kendon; Nigel Roberts; Professor David B. Stephenson
- Partners: The project includes researchers from Newcastle, Exeter and Reading Universities and the UK Met Office. Our project partners include the Environment Agency; the UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP); the Land and Water division of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) of Australia; the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in the United States; Colorado State University
CONVEX is a three and a half year project which brings together UK climate modelling, statistical modelling, Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) scientists and the impacts community to work together to improve our understanding of the characteristics extreme rainfall and its underlying causative processes. It will provide a better understanding, essential for improved model projections of extreme rainfall change under global warming.
