School of Engineering

In collaboration with the universities of Manchester, Bath, Leeds, and Cardiff, we are preparing a bid for the next generation of the Supergen Energy Networks Hub.

The Supergen programme delivers sustained, coordinated research on sustainable power generation and supply. It comprises a network of research hubs focussed on key topics, one of which is energy networks. The next generation of the Supergen Energy Networks Hub will be led by Professor Phil Taylor and Dr Sara Walker at Newcastle University, with co-Directors at the Universities of Bath, Cardiff, Leeds, and Manchester.

The new hub will lead the energy networks research community, with particular focus on the following goals:

  • Embedding energy networks research within a multi-vector, whole-systems approach
  • More substantial, higher level engagement with industry
  • More effective interaction with policy makers
  • A strong focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion
  • Helping Early Career Researchers (ECRs) grow into the next generation of research leaders
  • Increased international focus through initiatives such as the Global Challenge Research Fund
  • Providing visible leadership in the area of energy networks

Industrial Stakeholder Survey

This survey is intended to gauge the current level of collaboration, to identify the areas in which academia can provide significant contributions to energy networks research, and to help determine the best ways for the Hub to engage with the wider community.
