Staff Profile

Dr Christian Onwe

Research Associate

Background

Dr Onwe is a member of Electrical Power Research Group

He received his PhD in 2017 from The University of Dundee United Kingdom and his thesis dwelt on Renewable Energy Systems Designs and Assessment. His research interest is on Renewable Energy Systems integration with Energy Storage Systems. During his PhD he developed a software tool for modelling and simulation of solar-hydrogen energy systems. His tool considered hydrogen-cooking as an efficient means of utilising the hydrogen produced. He is currently a Research Associate at Newcastle University working on the reuse of second-life lithium-ion batteries. He tests, evaluates and analyse the performance characteristics of spent electric vehicle (EV) lithium-ion batteries when they are utilised in other alternative applications as stationery energy storage system.
