Weichi Zhang

KTP Associate (Power Electronics Eng.)



Weichi received the B.E degree from Xi’an University of Technology, Xi’an, China, in 2012; and M.Sc. degree and Ph.D. from Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K., in 2014 and 2019 respectively. His Ph.D. research topic was on power quality improvement in grid-connected PV inverter systems. He is now a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) Associate at Newcastle University, working in collaboration with Turbo Power System Ltd (TPS) on future energy management solutions for low carbon power transmission and distribution.

His main interest is Power Electronics Design field in the use of renewable energy and low carbon power transmission and distribution encompassing:

  • Power converters modelling and design 
  • Control systems
  • Power quality improvement (harmonics) 
  • Electromagnetic interference and compatibility (EMI/EMC) 
  • Utilisation of wide band-gap Silicon-Carbide semiconductors devices.
