Civil Engineering

A Newcastle Civil Engineering degree will equip you with broad-ranging knowledge. You'll have the option of an additional year of Master's-level study to extend your knowledge in:

  • Environmental Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Transport Engineering, or
  • Water Resources Engineering

Civil and Structural Engineering

Focus on the design of structures, such as bridges and buildings, with one of our Civil and Structural Engineering degrees. Topics include sustainable engineering systems and construction management. Take the option of an additional year of Master's-level study to extend your knowledge in:

  • seismic resistant design
  • unique and unusual structures
  • structural reliability and analysis

Our Study Abroad option has seen students experience student life at one of our partner universities in Europe including Sweden or worldwide with destinations including Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Our MEng degrees allow students to study Global Engineering, an international design and build challenge that has seen students work in the remote Sabah region of Borneo solving global problems.

Student Engineers

We see our students as ‘Student Engineers’, meaning right from day one, you will be on the pathway to becoming a professional engineer. 

A Chartered Engineer (CEng) is one of the most recognised international engineering qualifications.

  • Our Master of Engineering (MEng) degrees are a direct route to becoming chartered. You don’t need to study any further qualifications to work toward chartered status.
  • Our Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degrees can also lead to Chartered Engineer status. However, you’ll need to complete further study, such as an approved Master's degree.

Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme (DTUS)

All our undergraduate degrees in Civil Engineering are approved by the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme. The Scheme sponsors students interested in a scientific, engineering or technical career in the armed forces or the Ministry of Defence.
