Our Offer Holder Events are exclusive events focused on the degree programme you've applied for. After you receive an offer, you’ll receive your exclusive invitation to an Offer Holder Event.
They are a great way to find out more about the degree programme and fantastic facilities as well as what it’s like to be part of the Mechanical Engineering community. You will also have the opportunity to find out more about our city, campus and accommodation.
We’ll shortly post our event dates and you will be notified as soon as they are finalised.
You will receive your personal programme upon registration, on the day of the event.
From 9.00 - 10.30 and 15.30 - 17.00 there will be staff on hand to answer your questions about the non-academic side of student life including the Students' Union, careers support, studying abroad and sports. During this time you will also be able to have a look around some of our accommodation, and to take a tour of the campus or our new sports centre.
We are happy to make a contribution of up to £100 towards travel and accommodation expenses (for applicants only).
Please ensure that you keep receipts (e.g. petrol, car parking, coach or standard rail ticket) and we will provide you with an expenses claim form on the day. Please note that we are not able to accept claims below £5 or a mileage claim.

Engineering societies
The Mechanical Engineering society hosts social activities as well as discussion about your programme. Members of Engineers Without Borders take part in activities to strengthen and promote interest in engineering not only within the University, but also in the wider community. They take part in national design challenges and outreach activities with children in schools. The Marine Projects Society focuses on engineering projects, including but not limited to the design and construction of marine vehicles and solar cars.
Become involved in designing, building and developing a single seater racing car for competition with Formula Student. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers hosts the competition.
Newcastle is justly renowned for its vibrant and varied social scene. Its nightlife is legendary and caters for all tastes. Eateries range from burger joints and street food to fine dining at award-winning restaurants.
If you're keen on sport, there are many opportunities to watch world-class events or to participate in climbing, cycling, surfing, and of course the Great North Run.
The campus is just a few minutes' walk from two parks and the Town Moor.
It's a short, 20-minute Metro journey to award-winning beaches, and less than an hour away from stunning rural locations.
Newcastle is well connected by road, with access to major routes across the country.
Unfortunately, the University is unable to provide parking for our visitors. However, there are a number of car parks in the city centre, operated by Newcastle City Council and by NCP.
Park and Ride facilities are also available at some Metro Stations, if you'd prefer to stay outside the city centre.
Newcastle Central Station is served by many train companies from across the country. Plan your journey and book your tickets from one of the many online route planners, such as:
Megabus stops on John Dobson Street, next to the Newcastle City Library. It's a two-minute walk to the Monument Metro station, or around a 10-minute walk to the University.
National Express buses stop at Newcastle Coach Station, on St James Boulevard. It's about a 25-minute walk to the University, or a 10-minute walk to Newcastle Central Station, where you can take a Metro or a taxi.
Newcastle International Airport is about seven miles north west of Newcastle city centre. Flights arrive regularly from around the UK, Europe, and beyond.
Official airport taxis pick up and drop off outside the terminal. A taxi into the city centre should take about 15 minutes.
Newcastle Airport Metro station is connected to the terminal. The journey to Haymarket (the nearest stop to the University) takes about 25 minutes.
DFDS operate daily sailings between North Shields and Amsterdam. There are regular bus transfers from the ferry terminal to Newcastle city centre, dropping off at Bewick Street opposite the Central Station. Taxis are also available outside the terminal.
The nearest Metro station is Percy Main, which is about a 20-minute walk from the terminal. The journey into the city centre takes around 20 minutes.

Enjoy a night out in our vibrant city centre, or shop at markets, independent boutiques, or malls featuring the biggest names in retail.
