Background
In my role I provide leadership and management for the Educational Policy and Governance Service, part of Student Services.
The service works in partnership with staff and students to develop and implement institutional educational policies, ensure the quality of the University’s educational provision, and enhance the student learning experience. The unit’s wide remit includes responsibility for internal educational policies, educational partnerships; student voice including external and internal surveys, governance and committees, educational data, and quality assurance processes and systems.
I provide policy development and governance support to the PVC Education, Education Deans and education leadership of the institution. I am also currently contributing to the development of the institutional TEF submission for 2023.
Background
I have a PhD in twentieth century literary magazines from the anglophone Caribbean: my research charted the growth of Caribbean literature, against the backdrop of the end of colonial British rule, through grass roots groups and publications.
Latest publication: ‘Periodical Culture’, Caribbean Literature in Transition Vol. 2: 1920s-1970s, ed. Raphael Dalleo and Curdella Forbes (Cambridge University Press, 2021)
I have worked in the university since 2010 in roles in the Careers Service, University Library, School of English, the Learning and Teaching Development Service. I have a broad and varied background in educational enhancement, learning technologies, student academic support, and working with academic staff to enhance learning and teaching across the university. I have developed funding streams and staff recognition opportunities and led a body of work on supporting colleagues applying for promotion on the basis of their teaching.
I have taught undergraduate students in English Literature, the Partners scheme and school-aged children in outreach activities.
I previously represented early career researchers at a national level on an advisory group for the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Outside my paid employment I have been a trustee of Citizens Advice Newcastle since 2018.
