Abi Kelly

I head the University's Corporate Affairs Directorate which incorporates the Press Office, Marketing and Web Team, Internal Communications, Corporate PR and Events, NU Advancement, Executive Office, Stakeholder and Funding Relationships and Engagement teams.We deal with all proactive and reactive media relations for the University and manage key events such as VIP visits, Public Lectures and Lunchtime Concerts, corporate publications and marketing campaigns. The Corporate Affairs Directorate also produces the daily 'NU Headlines' press digest, the fortnightly 'NU Connections' staff newsletter, the NU Connect staff website and coordinates the campus-wide plasma screens.

The Directorate has led the staff engagement and external awareness campaigns that support the University's new Vision and Strategy. I am also the deputy incident manager who oversees any major issues that may affect the University's operations.

A graduate in Ecology from the University of York, I have spent 28 years working in the Public Relations industry in the North East.

I am a Trustee of 'Skills for People' which supports people with disabilities in the North East. I am also a Governor of Kenton School and a Trustee of the Kenton Schools Trust. I am also a Board member of the NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI) which is the destination marketing organisation for the city.
