Professor Helen Berry - Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Professor Helen BHelen Berryerry is Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor, Humanities and Social Sciences (from April 2018). She is a Professor of History who specializes in the social and cultural history of eighteenth-century Britain in transnational and global perspectives. Helen has a First Class degree in History from the University of Durham and a PhD in History from the University of Cambridge. She is a prizewinning Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Royal Society of Arts, and has published extensively to international acclaim in her field. She has held fellowships at the Huntington Library, San Marino California and the Harry Ransom Research Center, University of Texas at Austin and is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Indiana-Purdue, Indianapolis. She joined the School of History, Classics and Archaeology at Newcastle University in 2000 following postdoctoral positions at the Universities of Essex and Northumbria, becoming Director of Postgraduate Studies in 2007. Since 2014, she has been Dean of Postgraduate Studies in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
