The Government has published “Building our Industrial Strategy”.  This Green Paper sets out the Government’s approach to developing a modern industrial strategy to improve living standards and economic growth by increasing productivity and driving growth across the whole country. The aim is to establish an industrial policy for the long-term – to provide a policy framework against which major public and private sector investment decisions can be made with confidence.

The UK’s strengths in science, research and innovation are at the heart of the industrial strategy, recognising that research and innovation leads to new products, services and better ways of doing business and is key to economic growth and UK competitiveness. The Green Paper consults on the priorities for the additional £4.7 billion investment in R&D by 2020-21 announced in the Autumn Statement. These include the priority challenges that could be addressed through the new Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, and how we can support science and innovation strengths across the country, build the pipeline of skills and talent needed to deliver our ambition in science, research and innovation and ensure we have the infrastructure and institutions for a world-leading innovation base.
