Bending Fatigue Testing

Our Services: Mechanical Testing

We can easily determine the bending fatigue strength of gear samples using single tooth ‘pulsator’ testing on a resonance fatigue machine.

We conduct accelerated life tests so that we can obtain enough test data to generate a ‘Strength – Life’ (SN) curve for a particular gear sample. This technique gives a fast, accurate, and cost effective evaluation of enhancements that can occur through material and surface engineering modifications.

At the Design Unit, we've developed test methods to allow bending fatigue testing of both spur and helical gears. We can test various sizes of gear, of modules typically in the range of 2 to 10mm and face widths typically in the range of 5 to 30mm.

We can conduct tests on actual gears. We design a special test fixture to suit the particular gear geometry. We can also test on ‘standard’ gears manufactured using the same material and manufacturing process used for the gear under investigation.

We're also involved in research into bending fatigue strength.
